The School of Graduate Studies and Research is pleased to announce that Dr. Calvin Masilela, director of the McNair Scholars Program, received additional funds in the amount of $223,839.00 from the U.S. Department of Education for his project, “McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program (McNair).”
The program prepares first-generation college students who are financially needy and those from underrepresented groups who have demonstrated strong academic potential to acquire requisite skills needed for entry into graduate studies.
Since the program implementation in 2004, a total of 135 students have been served. Of those, twenty-seven are enrolled in master’s programs and seventeen are enrolled in doctoral programs, while thirty have earned master’s degrees and two have earned J.D. degrees.
The total amount awarded for the performance period 10/01/2007–09/30/2012 is $1,147,839.
