A BNY Mellon representative, hosted by COBSAC, came to IUP on October 13, 2011, to speak with students about creating their own personal brand.

Ruth Perkins offered tips in creating a personal brand as well as interviewing and resume advice. She provided a comprehensive overview of BNY Mellon—listing detailed opportunities for students looking for internships and full-time employment. Ms. Perkins stated that the BNY Mellon Pittsburgh office has been designated as a "growth center" for the company. Last year, the Pittsburgh location had ninety of the 325 internship openings in the company worldwide. A large portion of positions in the company require an accounting or finance background, but Ms. Perkins stressed that there are opportunities for students in management information systems, business technology support, management, and marketing as well.

Students can create a candidate profile on the BNY company website and receive notifications of future job opportunities. Additional information is available to students with their departmental internship coordinators.

“The presentation by Ms. Perkins was extremely valuable to the students,” said Dr. Dorothy Gracey. “Hearing what is needed to get and keep a job from a young professional in HR gives a new perspective to our students.” (Click here to view the Personal Brand PowerPoint Presentation made by Ms. Perkins.)
