The American Cancer Society and Giant Eagle in Indiana held their twenty-first annual Grocers Fight Cancer Day on Thursday, October 6, 2011.

This one-day event featured sales, raffles, live music, and more to entice customers into the store to shop on this special day, where a percentage of sales was donated to the American Cancer Society.

A cooking demonstration by the IUP Academy of Culinary Arts was part of the entertainment schedule.

Culinary students Joseph Strejcek, Harley Cook, Daniel Williams, Jesse Helm, Courtney Robison, Lavella Kirkland, and Rebecca Jarrell presented recipes and prepared samples for customers at the Giant Eagle store.

Sautéed shrimp with an asian rub and Orange Gastrique sauce, sautéed shrimp with a BBQ rub, and a Sesame BBQ sauce were among the recipes demonstrated by the students.

The IUP Academy of Culinary Arts is located in Punxsutawney and offers programs in Culinary Arts and Baking and Pastry Arts.
