In honor of National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, the Special Education and Clinical Services Department hosted an event to raise money to support the research efforts of the Sandy Rollman Ovarian Cancer Foundation.

The first annual Confections for a Cause event took place in Davis Hall on Monday, September 19, 2011. Everyone in the College of Education and Educational Technology was invited to fill a plate of confections for a $5 suggested donation.

The sweet treats provided were prepared and donated by the faculty, staff, and students of the Special Education and Clinical Services Department. Support was also provided by the IUP chapter of the National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association (NSSLHA). Aramark donated coffee for the event.

The event was a huge success and raised over $1,250. This money is being donated to the Sandy Rollman Ovarian Cancer Foundation, which seeks to find an early detection test for ovarian cancer and to find improved treatments for the disease.

It also develops educational programs to increase awareness of the disease. Anyone wishing to contribute can make donations through the foundation’s website.
