Students who have already picked up their mail in the Folger Hall student mail center have received a small gift from IUP's Annual Giving Office.
The gift--a break-apart magnet--carries a various words associated with IUP student life. "We want students to have fun with the magnets, to build phrases about IUP and about their daily experiences," Smeltz said. "Our purpose is two-fold. We want to welcome students back to campus with a token that's fun, but we also hope that by visiting the web page noted on the magnet, they will learn about how gifts from alumni and friends often help to fill the gap between what the state provides IUP in its budget allocation and what it actually costs to educate them. There's quite a difference, and I think many will be surprised," said Emily Davis Smeltz '01, M'02, IUP's Annual Giving director. During Welcome Weekend and into the first week of classes, signs have been posted around campus, noting that certain facilities have been completed or programs enhanced, thanks to donations from alumni and others.
Students who are interested in becoming involved in the Annual Giving Office's efforts should visit the Student Giving page.
