The University Museum at Indiana University of Pennsylvania will host its annual gala on Saturday, September 10, 2011, at 6:00 p.m. Reservations are required by September 1.
This year’s fundraising event, titled Eine Kleine Kit Kat Klub, is a taste of Jazz-Age Berlin with the cosmopolitan setting inspired by the German Expressionist artists of the early twenty-first century.
The theme plays off a combination of Mozart’s well-known piece “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik,” translated as “A Little Night Music,” and the fictional hot nightspot Kit Kat Klub depicted in the hit musical Cabaret, set in pre-War Berlin.
The gala will include a cocktail reception with an exhibition preview in the museum, elegant dining, and live cabaret-style entertainment in the Blue Room of IUP’s John Sutton Hall.
Also part of the evening will be a silent auction of art and a benefit raffle of a specially designed pendant-pin. The piece is presented in a 14-karat white gold setting and chain with 0.51 ct. weight in brilliantly cut pave diamonds and natural pearls pendant-pin. The raffle is sponsored by the Indiana Arts Council.
A sneak preview of the Paul Binai: Fifty Year Retrospective exhibit will also be available to those that attend the gala. Binai, who now resides in Indiana, is well known internationally for his expressionistic use of bold lines and the fusion of Asian and Western cultures. The exhibit opens to the general public on September 13 and runs through December 3.
The cost of the gala is $125 per person, with proceeds benefitting the many exhibits and related programs offered throughout the year by the University Museum. To receive an invitation and for more information, including purchasing raffle tickets, contact the University Museum at 724-357-2397 or e-mail Sally Daskivich at email@example.com.
The University Museum is presented by the College of Fine Arts as one of its many Lively Arts events held throughout the year for the general public.
