Applications Sought for 2011 Student Affairs Excellence in Assessment Award

Posted on 7/1/2011 3:25:58 PM

Student Affairs colleagues are encouraged to submit an application from their department to apply for the David A. DeCoster 2011 Excellence in Assessment Award.

The David A. DeCoster Excellence in Assessment Award recognizes an outstanding assessment project completed by Student Affairs Division colleagues in 2010–2011.

More than one application from a department is encouraged, and applications can come from individuals or teams.

Criteria included in the review of applications are:

  1. Clearly stated purpose;
  2. Link to the departmental or division Mission and Vision;
  3. Potential to improve the quality of student experience and positively impact students;
  4. Project’s methodology; and,
  5. Evidence of a strategy to act on assessment findings.

Why should I apply?

There’s practically no additional work to submit an assessment project for consideration—perhaps an hour or so to complete and submit the application.

The project winner(s) will be announced at the divisional opening in September and will receive the rotating recognition plaque, as well as universitywide acknowledgment.

This is an excellent opportunity to add to your resume or professional portfolio, plus be recognized among Student Affairs peers for outstanding effort and accomplishment.

We all participate in assessment activities—why not be recognized for your work?

How do I apply?

Complete the application, attach supporting documentation, and hand deliver to Jack Makara, Office of Housing and Residence Life, Ruddock Hall, Room G37 or send electronically to

Submit application by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, July 22, 2011
