Unveiling Treasures graphic; follow link to Facebook pageThe Special Collections and Archives area of IUP Libraries is raising awareness and funds through Unveiling Treasures for Modern Technology, a social media campaign being conducted in cooperation with IUP’s Communications Office and Annual Giving Office.

Those who wish to participate may do so by visiting the Unveiling Treasures for Modern Technology Facebook page and “liking” it. Those who choose to do so will have the opportunity to learn about the many assets of Special Collections and Archives; to pose questions to Harrison Wick, the archivist and special collections director; and to participate in various challenges that will lead to the unveiling of various pieces housed in the collection.

Not at all funded through state budget dolllars, the Special Collections and Archives area needs new equipment to assist with efforts to digitize its many pieces. Digitization helps to preserve rare and delicate items and make them accessible to more people. The campaign’s goal, in addition to raising awareness, is to raise $2,000, which will be used to purchase desktop scanners and computers. At present, Special Collections and Archives houses various university historical records, documents, and other items that pertain to U.S. history, such as the complete collection of the Civil War’s official records; numerous rare books including first editions by the likes of Charles Darwin, Mark Twain, and James Joyce; and several ancient treasures that will be revealed online as a result of the campaign.
