The thirty-third annual Business Day drew more than eight hundred students, faculty, alumni, and business professionals to Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) on Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at IUP’s Kovalchick Complex.

Eberly College of Business and Information Technology (ECOBIT) hosted the networking and informational event memorializing the late Lt. Col. Charles B. Stevenson, a former IUP professor in both the Military Science and Management departments. Stevenson established IUP Business Day during his career at IUP.
Business professionals led six panel sessions during the event, and more than seven hundred students signed up for the sessions. Executives and alumni represented the following business departments on the panels: Accounting, Finance and Legal Studies, Management, Marketing, Management Information Systems and Decision Sciences, and Technology Support and Training.
“I think Business Day provides many benefits to ECOBIT’s students,” said José Diaz-DeJesus, a senior International Business and Sport Management major. “For instance, it allows students to develop their social and etiquette skills. These are skills that students are not able to develop in a classroom setting.”

After the panel sessions, ECOBIT hosted a networking event in the Ed Fry Arena, followed by a luncheon program, which included a welcome by Interim President David Werner and remarks by Dr. Robert Camp, ECOBIT dean.
“Business Day is unique because it gives students the chance to have an open, honest, and relevant discussion with the business people in their profession,” said Elizabeth Bonelli, a senior MIS major. “The networking portion of Business Day made it easy to approach representatives from many different companies without pressure.”
During Business Day, ECOBIT inducted the following four business professionals into its Business Hall of Distinction: Donna DeFilippi, CPA, ’78, tax partner at Sisterson & Co. LLP; Joseph Manzinger, CPA, ’81, president and CEO at the Hillman Group; Florence Mauchant, CFA, ’85, partner at HT Capital Advisors, LLC; and Eugene O’Sullivan, CPA, ’71, CEO at Elliott Co.
ECOBIT also recognized College of Business Student Advisory Council (COBSAC) officers Sarah Wagner, president; José Diaz-DeJesus, senior vice president; Erin Puko, senior vice president; Ashley Frohnert, vice president of publicity; and Derek Yates, treasurer.
“Being honored for my services to COBSAC was a great and humbling experience,” Diaz-De Jesus said. “I am thankful to the business college for giving students the opportunity to be actively involved and contribute to the college's success.”
