TrumpetFest, an annual festival presented by the Department of Music, is scheduled for February 3-6, 2011, and will feature performances by IUP trumpet students and faculty members along with a lecture and performance by guest artist Dr. J.C. Dobrzelewski.
The event will be held in Gorell Recital Hall (second floor of Sutton Hall), unless otherwise noted. All events are free.

Guest clinician and soloist J.C. Dobrzelewski is an assistant professor of trumpet at West Chester University. Dr. Dobrzelewski was raised in both Costa Rica and Switzerland and regularly appears as a guest artist and clinician throughout Europe, Central America, and the United States. He is former principal trumpet of the Midland-Odessa Symphony and the Lone Star Brass in Texas.
An active soloist and clinician, Dobrzelewski has given recitals and master classes across the United States, Europe, and Latin America. A founding member of the Tromba Mundi trumpet ensemble, the Tryptique Ensemble, and the West Texas Brass Project, Dobrzelewski performs extensively as a chamber musician. He currently has two recordings for trumpet and organ under the Swiss AMIE label, Tryptique (2004) and Renewal (2005), as well as the Tromba Mundi Trumpet Ensemble’s self-titled album under the MSR Classics label (2009).
A supporter and promoter of new music, Dobrzelewski has commissioned and performed or recorded more than twenty works for trumpet and various ensembles by North and Central American and European composers. Dobrzelewski received a Prix de Trompette at the Conservatoire de Musique de Rueil-Malmaison in Paris, a Master of Music Performance from the University of Maine, and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Arizona State University, all in the area of trumpet performance. He won prizes at the Selmer Competition in Paris (1999) and the University of Maine Concerto Competition (2001). His most influential teachers include Eric Aubier, Wolfgang Bauer, Regents’ Professor David Hickman, Jean-Francois Michel, Sam Pilafian, and Guy Touvron. Jean-Christophe Dobrzelewski is a Yamaha Performing Artist and Clinician.
Dr. Kevin Eisensmith and Dr. David Ferguson, trumpet professors at IUP, will present a recital of music for trumpet and organ on Friday evening, February 4. They will be joined by Dr. Christine Clewell, professor of organ at IUP.
