Baseball head coach Jeff Ditch recently signed seven players to national letters of intent to join the team next fall: John Beatty, Jordan DeLuca, Paul Mills, Austin Mock, Dylan Tice, Ryan Uhl, and Kyle Zaorski

Four seniors are graduating from the current team: Mitch Perez, Kyle Heane, Vern Powell, and Frank Sirolli.

Men’s Basketball 

Five IUP players reached double figures in the men’s basketball team’s 76-59 victory over Thiel in the season opener for both teams November 15 at Memorial Field House. Next, the Crimson Hawks will face Bowie State on November 20 for their first away game.

Having reached the NCAA Division II national championship game last season, the Crimson Hawks are the favorites to win the PSAC West title in balloting by the division’s head coaches, while senior forward Darryl Webb and junior guard Julian Sanders were named to the All-PSAC West preseason team.

The team is also ranked among the national elite in several preseason polls: fourth by the Division II Bulletin and sixth by the Sporting News.

Women’s Basketball 

The women’s basketball team suffered a 69-61 loss to District of Columbia in the season opener for both teams November 14 in the nation’s capital.

Next, the team will travel to West Virginia on November 20 to take on Fairmont State. IUP will play its home opener November 29 against La Roche and has a rematch with District of Columbia on December 3 in Memorial Field House.

Head coach Jeff Dow recently announced the signing of three players, all from Indiana County, to national letters of intent for the 2011-2012 season. They are 5-11 wing Leslie Stapleton and 5-7 point guard Marita Mathe, both from Indiana Area Senior High School, and 5-10 shooting guard Amy Fairman from Marion Center High School.

Cross Country 

The IUP men and women placed eighth and ninth, respectively, at a PSAC meet November 6 at George H. Roadman University Park in Brownsville.

Both teams had four runners finish in the top fifty. Victor Costello led the men in thirty-second place, and Alyssa Taddie placed thirty-third to lead the women.

Field Hockey 

The field hockey team was eliminated from playoff contention following its 1-0 loss to Slippery Rock on November 13, combined with a Mansfield win. IUP closed out the season at 8-9 overall and 3-5 in the conference.


Six IUP football players have been named to the All-PSAC West team for the 2010 season, including first team selections Harvie Tuck, Jimmy O’Rourke, and Mike Gee, and second team choices Craig Burgess, Mychal Skinner, and Carl Thornton.

The team concluded its season with a 27-10 victory over West Chester at Miller Stadium, finishing with a record of 6-5.

Women’s Soccer 

Junior forward Melissa Kornock has been selected to the Daktronics All-Atlantic Region second team.

Four women’s soccer players were honored with PSAC all-conference selections: Paige Virgara on the second team and Melissa Kornock, Allison Keller, and Lauren Mizik on the third team.

The women’s soccer team ended its season with a 2-0 loss at Cal on November 2 in the quarterfinals of the PSAC playoffs. The Crimson Hawks finished their season 9-8-1 overall.


The women’s swim team is ranked twelfth in the first TYR/College Swim Coaches Association of America national poll for the 2010-2011 season. IUP is second among PSAC schools, trailing only seventh-ranked California. The team is back in action November 18-20, when it hosts the Jack Pidgeon Invitational.

IUP swimmers set seven pool records and Ally Long earned an NCAA B cut to lead the Crimson Hawks to a dual meet victory over Wheeling Jesuit on October 29. The women won 125-75 and the men 109-91.

Women’s Tennis 

The tennis team is ranked seventh in the Atlantic Region, and three players are in the top ten in the first regional rankings of the 2010-2011 season released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

This is the highest ranking in three seasons under head coach Larry Peterson. The Crimson Hawks finished the 2009-2010 season ranked eighth. Freshman Tabtip Louhabanjong is ranked eighth in singles, and the doubles team of sophomores Katie Eaton and Emilia Osborne is ranked third.

IUP resumes its season in February. The Spring campaign includes the PSAC Team Tournament and NCAA regional and national tournaments.


Senior Emily Pany and junior Danielle Ostendorf were honored with All-PSAC West second team selections as they prepare to open play in the NCAA Atlantic Regional on November 19 in Edinboro. The sixth-seeded women’s volleyball team will face third-seeded California.
