It’s Time for SECA 2010

Posted on 10/1/2010 12:21:44 PM

This is the month to make pledges or gifts to SECA (the State Employee Combined Appeal). If they choose, IUP faculty and staff members can use payroll deductions to donate to the campaign. They can also make one-time donations through check, cash, or credit card.

In addition to helping neighbors near and far, the gifts and pledges of IUP employees will make donors eligible for prize drawings. The earlier this month they donate or pledge, the more chances to win they will have.

IUP employees will no longer receive paper pledge forms. Follow this link to download a PDF version of the pledge form, which employees may complete on screen and e-mail to Bobbie Douglass,, or print and send via campus mail to the Office of the Associate Vice President for Facilities Management, Attn: Mark Geletka, 233 Sutton Hall. Those unable to access the form are asked to send a message to Bobbie Douglass or to call her at 724-357-2429.

On the pledge form, employees should indicate the charities to which they wish to donate (one or several, up to a limit of four). A complete list of charities is available in the SECA Resource Guide. As a convenience to some employees, there is a shorter list of United Way agencies in Western Pennsylvania. If the Agency Designation portion of the form is left blank, the employee’s contribution will be distributed proportionately to the eight umbrella organizations in the statewide SECA campaign.

IUP’s SECA campaign will extend through October 22. Those making gifts or pledges this week are eligible to win a $25 Co-op gift card, tickets to Spamalot, and free lunches at the Oak Room in Foster Hall. Each week, more prizes will be added, and the names of early donors will stay in contention, affording them the most chances of winning.

Drawings will be held October 8, October 15, and October 22. All pledge forms submitted by noon each Friday will qualify for that day’s drawing. The names of each Friday’s winners will appear the following Monday in IUP Daily.

Prizes in the October 22 drawing will include a six-month membership in the Jim Mill Fitness Center, a football autographed by the 2009 Steelers, IUP basketball season tickets, a reserved campus parking space, and Performance Plus Lively Arts subscriptions.

In addition to prizes associated with IUP’s SECA campaign, those who designate the United Way of Indiana County for their gifts or pledges will be eligible to win the following:

  • $10,000 toward purchasing a vehicle at Colonial Motor Mart, Delaney Chevrolet Buick Honda, or TriStar Motors
  • A 42-inch LCD/HD TV
  • A deluxe gas grill

To qualify, the donor needs to be sure to donate at least $208 per year or $8 per pay, based on twenty-six pay periods. Additional commitments in $208 increments will provide additional opportunities for winning.

Members of IUP’s SECA Task Force are Mark Geletka, Bobbie Douglass, Erin Fritz, Karen Gresh, Barbe Moore, Sam Phillips, Patti Simmons, and Ramesh Soni.
