Tim Paul
Tim Paul’s love for music took root in the power of shared experiences, where collective sound creates a deep, lasting connection. From his early days pursuing that initial spark to his ongoing work as a performer and educator, he has dedicated himself to the art of making music alongside others.
Today, as a faculty member in IUP’s Department of Music, Theatre, and Dance and as the director of bands, he inspires students to find their own creative voice while building meaningful musical communities together. Learn more about him in this installment of Meet Our Faculty.
What is it about the music field that initially drew you in—and ultimately keeps you interested?
The opportunity to share something that is deeply meaningful to me with others through a collective musical experience. What continues to inspire me is the pursuit of excellence alongside others and the joy found in the process of creating music together.
Why do you enjoy teaching in this discipline?
I enjoy helping others discover the same joy that first drew me to music. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing the moment when a student gains understanding or when an audience is moved by a meaningful musical performance.
What advice would you give students about how to succeed in college?
Pursue knowledge that excites you enough to wake up each morning eager to learn. When you find something you truly love, dedicate yourself to becoming the best person and professional you can be in that field.
Tell us something most of your students may not know about you.
Outside of music, I have a passion for cooking. I enjoy experimenting with new recipes and sharing meals with family and friends.
