Paul GrieggsPaul Grieggs, executive director of information technology security at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, has been selected as a finalist for the 2019 Pittsburgh Chief IT Security Officer (CISO) of the Year award. The award is sponsored by the Pittsburgh Technology Council and the Greater Pittsburgh CIO group and will be presented on March 21 in Pittsburgh.

Grieggs is one of only five professionals in the region selected as a nominee for this recognition and joins individuals from both academia and private industry as a finalist for this award.

“IUP is in very distinguished company with Paul as a finalist for this award, and this recognition is well deserved,” IUP Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Timothy Moerland said.

“Our information technology program, including technology security initiatives, is cutting edge. We are fortunate to have a group of extremely dedicated and talented individuals working to meet the demands of an environment that changes constantly and presents new challenges on a daily basis.”

Grieggs, who became IUP's first executive director of information technology security in 2015, has worked at IUP for more than 30 years. He founded IUP's Technical Services Team in 1997 and is the university's most senior information technology professional, focusing on information technology security for the last 22 years of his career.

Grieggs has emerged as a leader in the higher education cyber security community and has been an invited presenter at regional, state, national, and international conferences and other events. His expertise includes a broad range of information technology security-related topics, including cloud computing, federated identity management, disaster recovery and business continuity, networking monitoring, and administration and cyber security awareness programs.

This most recent nomination is part of a tradition of excellence for IUP in the information technology field; four IUP graduates have won the CIO of the Year award. IUP alumni recipients include Scott Angelo of Fragoman, formerly of K&L Gates, (2015); Bill Balint, IUP's chief information officer (2016); Steven Agnoli, Reed Smith LLP (2017); and Ron Beckman of Black Box (2018).
