The Office of Service Learning honored Dr. Linda Jennings, Music Department faculty member, with the 2010–2011 Volunteer of the Year Award.
Jennings was honored as a result of her service beyond the requirements of being a member of the faculty. She has created music programs in Haiti, and, following the recent earthquake, she organized a benefit concert on campus and brought in a Haitian music educator to work with students. The concert raised $500 for Haiti earthquake relief.
Jennings also has worked for the past four years on the IUP String Project, a string-music educational outreach program. Through this project, student volunteers give string-instrument instruction to children ages four through eighteen in the community.
