IUP is no longer accepting applications for general admission for freshman students for the Indiana and Punxsutawney campuses for Fall 2011.
“For the second year in a row, we received a record number of applicants for our Fall freshman class, and applicants are very strong academically,” James Begany, associate vice president for Enrollment Management, said. For the Fall semester, 3,100 new freshmen have been selected to matriculate at IUP.
Applications are still open to international students and transfer students—except in the Nursing and Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology majors. Students interested in studying at IUP's Northpointe campus are also welcome to apply.
IUP received 12,794 applications for Fall 2011 admission, 786 more than the 12,008 received for Fall 2010. IUP had received 706 more applications for Fall 2010 than for Fall 2009 admission.
“Students and parents consistently report that they are impressed with our high academic quality, and our students continue to reinforce that reputation by selection for prestigious awards like Goldwater and Fulbright scholarships,” Begany said.
“We also know that our new residence halls and the living-learning communities they create are important to our incoming students and their families. These factors, along with our affordability, keep IUP as a very attractive option for academically strong students.”
This year's record-breaking number of applications comes on the heels of record-breaking enrollment in Fall 2010. Enrollment was 15,126 students in Fall 2010, which included 3,128 freshmen, 680 transfer students, and 2,299 graduate students. The previous enrollment record of 14,620 was set in Fall 1991.
Since 2007, enrollment has grown by more than 1,108 students, or 7.9 percent, across all IUP instructional sites and campuses.
