The men's basketball team's season ended March 15, 2011, in the NCAA Atlantic Region championship game with an 89-86 loss to host and top seed West Liberty.

The Crimson Hawks cut a 16-point deficit to two and had two shots at a game-tying three-pointer in the final seconds but could not convert.

They finished the season with a record of 26-6. West Liberty, the number-one team in the nation, remained undefeated at 32-0 and advanced to the Elite Eight for the first time in school history. The Hilltoppers also avenged an 84-72 loss to IUP in the Atlantic Region championship game a year ago.

Senior forward Darryl Webb finished with 23 points and 16 rebounds—his fifty-fourth career double-double. He concludes his four years at IUP as the all-time leader in games played (126), points (1,949), rebounds (1,214), field goals made (708), and blocked shots (162).

Four other Crimson Hawks reached double figures in the championship game: Julian Sanders, 17 points; Kevin Stewart, 13; Scooter Renkin, 12; and Ashton Smith, 11. Webb and Smith were named to the all-tournament team.
