A concert by award-winning Cherokee contemporary recording artist Michael Jacobs will be held Wednesday, March 24, 2010, at 7:00 p.m. in Beard Auditorium, Stouffer Hall.
The concert, which is free and open to the community, is presented by the Native American Awareness Council and the Office of Social Equity and Civic Engagement.
Jacobs's debut solo CD, Sacred Nation, received the 2003 Native American Music Award for Best Independent Recording. His follow-up, They Come Dancing, was nominated in 2004. The Journey, his third CD, received a 2006 Indian Summer Music Award, a 2006 Just Plain Folks Award nomination, and two Native American Music Award nominations in 2007. Mystery received two Indian Summer Music Awards in 2008, one for Best Pop Recording and one for Best Rock Recording.
Jacobs's music is a mixture of Native American, rock, pop, and folk, which fuses contemporary and traditional sounds. His songs address human issues such as peace, justice, suffering, the environment, relationships, and wholeness.
