Picnickers getting their food in the Oak Grove

Indiana University of Pennsylvania continues its weekly picnics in the Oak Grove on Wednesdays with a special showcase of the IUP Footlight Players Theater-for-Youth program on July 1, 2009, designated as Children's Day.

Picnics are open to the community and will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., weather permitting. Cancellations because of inclement weather will be announced on local radio stations and posted on the IUP website. Picnics continue through August 5.

Picnickers may bring a lunch or purchase one from the Aramark food carts.

Members of the Footlight Players will offer selections from the group's upcoming performances, “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and “James and the Giant Peach,” during the picnic. Other special events offered for children include a puppet-making workshop starting at 11:30 a.m.

S&T Bank will be the special guest for this picnic.

The remainder of the picnic schedule includes contemporary music on July 8, July 22, and August 5; music from the 1970s (disco) on July 15; and music from the 1980s on July 29.

Other special guests include St. Thomas More University Parish on July 8 and the United Way of Indiana County on August 5.
