Tuba and euphonium players from IUP and Slippery Rock University met at Butler High School on Sunday, November 16, to share an afternoon of music-making. Soloists from each school performed in a master class and received feedback from teachers Phil VanOuse (SRU) and Zach Collins (IUP).
After sharing pizza, the students performed a concert of tuba-euphonium ensemble music, culminating with a combined tuba-euphonium ensemble with all 50 students playing together.
The day was jointly planned by VanOuse and Collins and was hosted by IUP alumnus and Butler High School faculty member Dylan Opalinski. The event was a great way for students to meet each other and hear how experiences differ at the two schools. We hope this is the start of a new friendship and tradition.
