Kayleigh Acord Recital ArtworkIndiana University of Pennsylvania’s Department of Music, Theatre, and Dance will present a faculty recital by violinist Kaleigh Acord on Tuesday, October 13, at 7:00 p.m. in Gorell Recital Hall, on the second floor of Sutton Hall. Admission is free, and the public is invited.

Acord will be joined by pianist Henry Wong Doe and cellist Linda Jennings for a program of Romantic-era chamber music by women composers. Featured works include Clara Schumann’s “Piano Trio in G minor, Op. 17” and Amanda Maier’s “Sonata in B minor for Violin and Piano.”

“Clara Schumann was one of the greatest pianists of the nineteenth century, and Amanda Maier was an internationally known violinist and composer, the first woman to graduate from Stockholm’s conservatory with the title of ‘music director,’” said Matthew Baumer, chairperson of IUP’s Department of Music, Theatre, and Dance. “It will be a delight to hear these works performed by Dr. Acord and colleagues.”

Acord teaches violin and viola at IUP and earned her doctorate in violin performance from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Her debut album, Twenty-First Century American Storytellers, features six American works composed between 2000 and 2019, including two written specifically for her. Her teaching background includes positions with community music programs and chamber music festivals.

Wong Doe, IUP professor of piano and Keyboard Area chair, earned his doctorate from the Juilliard School. A native of New Zealand, he has won prizes in international piano competitions and performed at venues including New York’s Lincoln Center and the Sydney Opera House. His orchestral collaborations include performances with the Pittsburgh Symphony and Israel Philharmonic.

Jennings teaches cello at IUP and directs the IUP Cello Choir and IUP String Project, which she founded in 2004. She earned her doctorate from the University of Texas at Austin and has performed as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral player in the United States and internationally.
