IUP's Iota Mu chapter of Sigma Delta Pi, the National Hispanic Honor Society, celebrated its fifty-third initiation ceremony on Friday, May 1, 2026. Welcomed to active membership were Briannah Braun (BA Political Science, Spanish), Lauren Connor (BA Sociology, Spanish), and Reia Sanchez (BA Sociology, Spanish). Mason Cymbor (BA Spanish, Certificate Spanish Education PK-12) served as the presiding student officer.
Department of Language, Literature, and Writing faculty members (Spanish) Christina Huhn, Sean McDaniel, Lydia Rodríguez, Marveta Ryan-Sams, and Dawn Smith-Sherwood (chapter advisor) participated in the event as readers. Ken Sherwood (English) delivered the initiation remarks, “Por qué español today?”
