The IUP Public Safety and Emergency Management Offices are closing monitoring updates on the coronavirus 2019-nCov.

As of February 3, 2020, there are 11 total confirmed cases in the United States; however, no cases are in Pennsylvania.

As stated in previous communications, if you or anyone close to you have been to China within the past 14 days and feel sick with fever, cough, or difficulty breathing, you can call the Health Service at 724-357-2550 for assistance—and after-hours you can access the Indiana Regional Medical Center Emergency Department.

Symptoms of coronavirus

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Difficulty breathing/shortness of breath

For most cases, symptoms have been mild and resolved after several days.

When to contact a healthcare professional

  • If you have traveled to China within 14 days and are experiencing a fever and lower respiratory symptoms (cough, shortness of breath, chest pain)
  • If you have had recent contact with a coronavirus case and are experiencing a fever or lower respiratory symptoms (cough, shortness of breath, chest pain)

Feeling sick with a fever, cough, or breathing difficulties? You should:

  • Stay home. Except for seeking medical care, avoid contact with others.
  • Seek medical care right away. Before you go to a doctor's office or emergency room, call ahead and tell them about your recent travel and your symptoms.
  • Don't travel while sick.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when coughing or sneezing.
  • Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

The US Department of State has issued a Level 4: Do Not Travel advisory for China. In accordance with this, there is a travel ban in place for all members of the IUP community for the People's Republic of China. This means that no student or employee is permitted to travel to China on university business.

We will continue to update the IUP community regarding the coronavirus as developments occur. Additional information can be found at the links below:
