Five IUP students attended the “Become What They See and Connect to in Cyber Security” workshop held in Las Vegas in June 2015. The workshop was cosponsored by the NSF, IUP, Norfolk State University, and CyberWatch West.

The workshop’s goal is to contribute towards building the pipeline from community colleges by targeting women and minorities in cybersecurity.

The workshop was hosted by the CISSE Women and Minorities in Cybersecurity Working Group as part of the 19th Colloquium for Information Systems and Security Education (CISSE) in Las Vegas on June 13–17.

About 50 students from 14 different universities and community colleges across the county were in attendance. These undecided majors were exposed to a wide range of practical aspects of cybersecurity through hands-on activities.

Travel expenses for all students and facilitators were funded by a grant from NSF to support women and minorities in cybersecurity.
