The IUP Physics Club is starting the semester with exciting opportunities for students to connect, learn, and explore the future of science.

The club will hold its first meeting of the semester on Wednesday, September 17, at 7:00 p.m. in Kopch Hall 457. Regular meetings will continue on the first and third Wednesdays of each month.

Club meetings bring students together through hands-on experiments, interactive demonstrations, and engaging discussions on physics topics that connect theory with real-world applications. The atmosphere is welcoming and collaborative, with plenty of opportunities to make friends and explore science beyond the classroom. And of course, no Physics Club gathering is complete without pizza and snacks.

Two days later, on Friday, September 19, 2025, the club will host a seminar titled “Nano Talk” in Kopch Hall, Room 102, from 11:20 a.m. to 12:10 p.m. The event will feature Trey Shirley, Research Technologist at Penn State’s Center for Nanotechnology Education & Utilization (CNEU).

Shirley will discuss the growing demand for engineers trained in nanotechnology and micro-processing, emphasizing how these skills open doors to cutting-edge careers. Attendees will also learn about the Nanofabrication Manufacturing Technology (NMT) program at Penn State, which provides students with PhD-level technical training in just 12 weeks. Former participants will share firsthand experiences from the program, highlighting how it can shape future career paths in advanced materials and nanomanufacturing.

With its mix of academic enrichment and community-building activities, the Physics Club invites students from all majors to participate. Whether attending the first meeting to connect with peers or joining the seminar to learn about emerging technologies, students can look forward to a semester full of discovery.
