This unique program blends anthropology, biology, chemistry, criminology, and computer science to prepare you for dynamic careers in forensic investigation.

IUP is the only institution in the region offering three specialized tracks in Forensic Sciences:

Experiential Learning Opportunities

Forensic Outdoor Research Station – IUP South Campus

Get hands-on experience in IUP’s half-acre outdoor forensic research station, dedicated to training and research. Learn how to locate clandestine graves, study decomposition processes, recover evidence, and even design independent research projects.

Partnerships with the Indiana County Coroner’s Office

Compete for a prestigious internship at the Indiana County Forensic Science Center, where you’ll assist with real investigations. Students gain first-hand experience in field documentation, autopsies, and medico-legal procedures under the supervision of professionals.

DPAA/HJF WWII Forensic Archaeology Field School

In partnership with the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency and Henry M. Jackson Foundation for Military Medicine, IUP students participate in archaeological field schools dedicated to recovering missing U.S. service members. This six-week program takes students abroad to sites in Europe, where they excavate crash sites, recover materials, and contribute to historical investigations.

  • Crime Scene Investigation Track: Focus on recovery scene documentation, physical evidence recovery, and reconstruction.
  • Laboratory Forensics Track: Learn analytical techniques for DNA, toxins, drugs, and trace evidence.
  • Digital Forensics Track: Gain skills to recover and analyze electronic data while preserving admissibility in court.
