How the Savings Works

Starting in the fall 2022 semester, Pennsylvania undergraduate students have been able to take 12 to 18 credits per semester at a flat tuition rate of $7,716. Starting in fall 2023, US undergraduate students from outside of Pennsylvania will be able to take the same amount of credits at a flat tuition rate of $11,200, and international undergraduate students will take the same amount of credits at a flat tuition rate of $19,152.

Most of our undergraduate students take 15 credits each semester to graduate in four years. Pennsylvania students will save $7,416 on the total cost of their education just by taking the number of classes they usually take under the new plan, compared to the previous per-credit cost. For US students from outside of Pennsylvania beginning their studies in fall 2023, those savings will be $10,760 and for international students, the savings will be $19,152.

The Value of an IUP Education

The new tuition plan will allow more students to experience a quality IUP education, where they learn beyond the classroom through first-hand experience in research and creative activity. Here, students will be challenged to step out of their comfort zone, but are supported every step of the way. Resources like the Hawks Q&A Center and our IUP Guides are designed to help every student succeed.

Our unique combination of solid academics with a strong support system has led to broad recognition, from nationally ranked programs to the recent designation as a university with “High Research Activity” by the national Center for Postsecondary Research’s 2021 Carnegie Classification. The tuition affordability plan is an investment in the future of our students as well as their academic and personal success.

Undergraduate students who take fewer than 12 credits per semester will be charged at the per-credit rate.

The new tuition plan does not affect the way fees are calculated.

Some of the fees for undergraduate students are calculated based on the number of credits students take. These fees will still be based on the number of credits taken (such as 15). The new plan only changes how tuition is billed. It does not change how fees are billed. See more information on undergraduate fees. Any changes to fee structures in the future will be communicated separately.
