Manuscript Preparation

Format Requirements

  • File Format: Submit manuscripts as Microsoft Word documents (.doc or .docx).
  • Citation Format: Follow APA (American Psychological Association) 7 citation style and format and language conventions.
  • Length: Submissions should not exceed 5,000 words, including references, tables, and figure captions. No minimum length is required for submission.
  • Tables and Figures: Include in the main body of the text.
  • Font: Use 12-point Times New Roman or similar serif font. Text should be black.
  • Spacing: Double-space all text, including references, with no extra space between paragraphs. One space after periods, as per APA 7th edition guidelines.
  • Margins: Use 1-inch margins on all sides.
  • Page Numbers: Consecutively number all pages in the top right corner.

Articles

All articles should include the following:

  1. Title Page (separate page). The title page should include the:
    • Title
    • Author(s) name(s),
    • Contact information for authors (email and phone #),
    • Faculty advisor name and email,
    • Acknowledgments (if applicable).
    • A short bio of 50–150 words that describes who you are (major, year, etc).
  2. Abstract: The first page of the article (after the title page) should include a 150- to 250-word abstract that summarizes the submitted work’s purpose, methods of inquiry, results/arguments, and conclusions. Please also include three to five keywords.
  3. Manuscript. The main text of your submission, conveying your original work. As relevant, include in-text citations throughout.
  4. References. Our journal publishes in APA, although students can submit in other formats:
    • Use a recognized citation style appropriate to your discipline (APA, MLA, Chicago, etc.)
    • Maintain consistency throughout the manuscript
  5. Tables and Figures: Tables and figures should be included within the text of the manuscript where they are relevant. Wherever possible, create them within the document itself rather than pasting pictures into the text. Please see our AI policy on AI-generated images.

Poster Submissions

Inquiry and Innovation welcomes adapted poster presentations for publication. These submissions should take one of two forms: Adapted Poster Presentation or Article

Adapted Poster Presentation:

  • Extended Abstract: Provide a comprehensive abstract (250-300 words) that fully describes the research.
  • Expanded Methodology Section: Include a detailed methods section (300-1000 words) that thoroughly describes:
    • Research design and approach,
    • Data collection procedures,
    • Analytical methods,
    • Limitations and delimitations.
  • Discussion and Implications: Expand beyond the poster format to include interpretation of findings and broader implications.

Article adaptation: You can adapt your poster presentation into an article. If you choose to do this, submissions should follow the aforementioned article submission parameters.

Poster Image Requirements

  • Resolution: Poster images must be submitted at 300 DPI (dots per inch) minimum for print quality.
  • File Format: Submit poster images as high-resolution PDF, TIFF, JPG, or PNG files.
  • File Naming: Use clear, descriptive file names (e.g., LastName_PosterImage.pdf).
  • Submission: Upload poster image as a supplementary file along with the manuscript.
