Long Track Record of Sound Success

Members of the IUP community recently  celebrated the retirement of Music professor and track coach Ed Fry after forty-three years of service to IUP.

Fry has the longest tenure of any active head coach at IUP. He recently completed his forty-third season coaching men’s cross country and track and field, and he has coached women’s track and field for thirty years and women’s cross country for twenty-nine years. He has been the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Coach of the Year four times.

Fry was honored by Chad Hurley, a 1999 IUP graduate, during November’s groundbreaking for the Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex with Hurley's $1-million gift for the KCAC in Coach Fry’s honor. The arena in the KCAC will be named the Ed Fry Arena. In addition to his work as a coach, Fry is also a talented musician who has committed himself to helping IUP’s budding musicians to succeed.
