Parents and Family Orientation

We are here to help!

We believe family support is an important component of student success, therefore, we have developed a one-day Parent and Family Orientation Program that will take place at the same time as our new student orientation program.  The program is designed to help with the transition to college and to become better acquainted with our campus and its resources.

Some of the featured topics in the Parent and Family Orientation Program include:

  • Academic programs and policies

  • University costs, financial aid, and payment plans

  • Residence life and dining hall information

The Parent and Family Program and the First Year Student Program will be together until 2:00 p.m.

  • 8:30–10:30: Individual Office Visits and Check-in

  • 9:30–10:30: Arrival and Check-in

  • 10:30–11:00: Opening Remarks, Academic Expectations

  • 11:00–11:40: Financial Aid and Student Billing

  • Noon–2:30: Informational Sessions and Lunch

The Parent and Family Afternoon Program (separate from the Student Program)

  • 2:30-3:00:  Letting Go, Letting Grow
  • 3:00-3:30:  Student Panel, the Student Experience
  • 3:30-4:00:  Conversation Corners
  • 4:00-4:30:  Words of Encouragement

While there is NO fee for the Parent and Family Orientation program, family members will have the option to purchase meal ticket(s) for lunch during the registration process for a minimal fee. Please note, lunch will be included as part of the student’s orientation program.

In preparation for your student’s transition to IUP, we hope you will attend our Parent and Family Orientation program to learn more about the resources and services available at IUP.
