The Academy of Culinary Arts is sad to share the news that former chef instructor Gary Fitting passed away on Thursday, July 26, 2018.
Gary Fitting was an instructor at IUP from 1996 to 2014. He attended the Culinary Institute of America and then completed the Greenbrier Apprentice Program under the direction of Hermann G. Rusch at the Greenbrier Resort in White Sulpher Springs, West Virginia.
He had a successful career in the hospitality industry, where he held numerous culinary positions throughout the United States prior to starting his teaching career at the IUP Academy of Culinary Arts.
Gary Fitting was an active member of the American Culinary Federation. He was awarded the ACF Hermann G. Rusch Chef’s Achievement Award in 2007 and was the first chef in the United States to receive certification from World Association of Chefs Society, a global network of chefs’ associations founded in 1928 at the Sorbonne in Paris.
Chef Fitting loved teaching. He loved his students. He loved Switzerland and Las Vegas.
