With the strong partnership between Indiana University of Pennsylvania and University of Essex (UK), the IUP Office of International Education is happy to share this opportunity with IUP faculty. The following information is directly from Essex Abroad. Please direct any queries or questions to internationalvisits@essex.ac.uk.

Essex Abroad is now accepting applications for the University of Essex International Visiting Fellowship scheme for the academic year 2018–19. Applications for the first call close July 31, 2018.

The International Visiting Fellowships are the university’s flagship research fellowship program, in which internationally recognized researchers based outside of the United Kingdom are invited to experience and contribute to the research community at the University of Essex. As this is a collaborative scheme, applicants are required to identify an Essex academic to host the visit, and the nature of the research should be of significant benefit to the department and the university.

Two categories of International Visiting Fellowship are available:

  1. Short-term International Visiting Fellows
    • 14 days duration (shorter duration will be considered, but priority is for the two-week applicants)
    • Applications accepted for Fellowships during September–December 2018
  2. Long-term International Visiting Fellows
    • Six- to 10-month duration
    • Starting in September 2018

Fellowship benefits:

  • Status of a university International Visiting Fellow
  • Return economy airfare to/from the UK
  • Exclusive use of a university-owned house within walking distance of Colchester Campus*
  • Small weekly stipend

*Southend- and Loughton-based fellows will be accommodated in local B&B hotel.

Successful applicants are expected to contribute to the university’s research community, specifically that of the host department/centre and faculty. The visiting fellow should aim to incorporate some of the following:

  • Presentation of core research to a targeted audience
  • Research and/or training event targeted at PhD students and early career scholars
  • Exploration of further collaborative opportunities with groups/individuals
  • A public event
  • Interdisciplinary activity aimed at an audience beyond your immediate field of specialism; e.g., lecture, performance, exhibition, seminar, workshop

We would greatly appreciate it if you could share this opportunity among your academic colleagues who may have existing research collaborations which could benefit from this scheme.

More information about eligibility and how to apply can be found on the University of Essex website.

We look forward to receiving applications.
