Pennsylvania House of Representatives Majority Leader Dave Reed has recently donated a photograph that has been identified as one of the earliest known photographs of the first campus building—John Sutton Hall.

John Sutton Hall - 1874

Indiana photographer T. C. Cooper took this photograph shortly before an announcement was made in the Indiana Democrat newspaper on November 25, 1874.

The photograph shows the completed building without landscaping, workmen in the windows, and scaffolding.

This was the first building constructed on the campus of the State Normal School in Indiana, Pennsylvania. This building was later named in memory of John Sutton, the first president of the Board of Trustees.
