Early Childhood Special Education first-year majors and undecided education majors had the opportunity to pose questions to a distinguished panel of teachers and principals.
Each year a professional panel of educators is convened in Beard Auditorium in Stouffer Hall. Included in that panel are three IUP alumni: Ashley Henderson, fourth-grade teacher at Pittsburgh Faison (BSEd), ECSP urban-track graduate (MEd 2017) math education;
Laci Hoyle, third-grade teacher at Pittsburgh Faison (BSEd), ECSP urban-track graduate; and Rosemary Buchanan, music teacher at Blairsville Elementary School (BS and MEd music education). Melissa Wagner, principal at Pittsburgh Minadeo (pre-K–5) and
parent of two ECSP teacher candidates, and Curt Vasas, principal at Forest Hills Junior-Senior High School, also served as panelists.
The panelists answered student-prepared questions from the three ECED 117 sections. Additionally, each panelist shared personal and professional experiences and concluded the session with inspirational words of hope, dedication, commitment, and wisdom
to assure the students that choosing to accept the call to become highly qualified, effective teachers can make a difference in the lives of children, families, and society.
