Swan Lake groupAs part of its Ovations! series, the Lively Arts will present Russia’s Moscow Festival Ballet in a performance of Peter Tchaikovsky’s iconic ballet, Swan Lake. The performance will be presented at the early family-friendly time of 7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 28, 2016, in Fisher Auditorium of IUP’s Performing Arts Center.

The Moscow Festival Ballet was founded in 1989 when legendary principal dancer of the Bolshoi Ballet, Sergei Radchenko, sought to realize his vision of a company which would bring together the highest classical elements of the great Bolshoi and Kirov Ballet companies in an independent new company within the framework of Russian classic ballet.

Born in 1944, Radchenko graduated from the Moscow School of Dance in 1964 and then joined the Bolshoi Ballet, where he worked for 25 years. He danced the entire repertoire at the Bolshoi, but enjoyed a special reputation for Spanish dance, particularly the role of the bullfighter in the Bizet-Schedrin Carmen Suite. He has achieved a remarkable feat in the establishment and development of this young-but-great Russian ballet company.

Since its inception, the Moscow Festival Ballet has completed two tours of Europe with extraordinary receptions and has performed throughout Asia. This season marks their seventh tour of the U.S.

Leading dancers from across the Russia have forged under Radchenko’s direction an exciting new company staging new productions of timeless classics such as Giselle, Don Quixote, Paquita, and Carmen. The company continues to expand its repertoire through new works from within Russia and abroad and specializes in 20th-century, full-length ballets such as Cinderella, Romeo and Juliet, Legend of Love, Stone Flower, and The Golden Age.

As part of his visit to Indiana, Radchenko will be leading a pre-performance talk for audience members starting at 6:00 p.m. in the IUP Performing Arts Center. The talk is open to all ticket holders with the ticket office opening early at 5:30 p.m. on the 28th.
