Alumnus Jarvis Receives Young Alumni Achievement Award, Visits Geoscience Students

Accomplished geologist and IUP alumnus Michael Jarvis will visit campus on Monday, November 10, 2014, to receive a Young Alumni Achievement Award.

Jarvis graduated with a BS in Geology in 2008. He will share his experience with students and faculty through a series of talks about his work in geophysical and petrophysical interpretation. 

IUP alumnus Michael JarvisJarvis started his career as an interning geologist at EXCO Resources. After graduating IUP, he was hired by EXCO as part of their Marcellus Asset Team in Warrendale, Pa. Since 2008,, he has worked for several Marcellus-related companies, supervising teams of geologists in geosteering operations.

Jarvis is currently Range Resources Appalachia’s lead geologist for Marcellus development in northwest Washington County.

Monday, November 10

10:10–10:45 a.m.

Meeting with GEOS 312 Hydrogeology class. Jarvis will discuss research and opportunities in the shale gas industry. 104 Walsh Hall

10:45–11:15 a.m.

Meeting with GEOS 351 Historical Geology class. Jarvis will advise geoscience majors on potential career paths. Other interested majors are also invited. 104 Walsh Hall
