Faculty member F.B. “Pete” Brooks was invited to present “Transforming Classroom Discourse with Instructional Conversation” to 30 foreign language teachers and five student teachers in the State College Area School District in March 2014.
This workshop, an expansion of an earlier presentation he did with a colleague, described what instructional conversation is (and is not) to assist teachers in monitoring their classroom discourse. The aim is to reduce the more traditional and ubiquitous Initiation-Response-Evaluation (or recitation) sequences and increase real conversational interaction during lessons.
