The 2013 recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Scholar Award has been named by the College of Education and Educational Technology. Jeff Samide, associate professor of counselor education at California University of Pennsylvania and an alumnus of the IUP Department of Counseling, will formally receive the award on Wednesday, November 6.
This marks the first time that a graduate of the Department of Counseling is the recipient.

He holds credentials as a national certified counselor, a master addictions counselor, and an approved clinical supervisor. Samide serves as a coeditor of the career development series “Research in Career Development.” In 2011, he published his first coedited book, Career Development in Higher Education. His second coedited textbook, Career Development Across the Lifespan: Communities, Schools, and Higher Education, is scheduled for publication in fall 2013.
Samide has also published on a variety of other topics, including spirituality and existential counseling; the fusion of art, science, and technology into counselor education; clinical supervision; and folklore. In addition to teaching, Samide maintains a clinical consultation practice on children, youth, and family issues in Westmoreland County.
During his visit to IUP, he will meet with Counseling faculty and students prior to the reception and award ceremony, which will be held in Stouffer Auditorium.
