Attention faculty, staff, and community members: The International Friendship Program is now accepting applications for the 2013 academic year. The International Friendship Program is sponsored by IUP’s Office of International Education.
This valuable and rewarding program promotes international understanding and diversity by matching Indiana-area community members, young and old, or families with two or more international students.
Volunteers and students are matched for the academic year (Fall and Spring semesters), and all we ask of volunteers is stay in touch with your matched friends through whatever means you choose and to meet in person several times a semester, at least once a month, to keep your friendship growing. There is no financial obligation, students do not stay with the volunteers, and friends are free to make their own schedules to meet.
What happens after a community volunteer is assigned will depend on the mutual interests of the partners. Volunteers have shared many different experiences with their international friends in the past. Some examples include:
Every year, hundreds of international students come to Indiana to study, do research, or learn English. This program offers the rare opportunity for you and your family to make friends from around the world, learn about other cultures, share your favorite parts of our culture, and extend hospitality to a student new to Indiana and America.
To apply, download the International Friendship Program application and return it to the Office of International Education, B25 Delaney Hall, or send as an attachment to firstname.lastname@example.org.
