Fredalene Barletta Bowers was selected to receive the 2013 University Senate Distinguished Faculty Award for Teaching.
She serves as chairperson of the Department of Human Development and Environmental Studies. She has been recognized for a commitment to mentoring students and implementing a variety of teaching strategies to meet student needs. The award was based on the use of authentic assessment in the classroom, involvement in professional organizations, and awards from the Center for Teaching Excellence in both Advising and Teaching.
Bowers has a history of writing successful grants to benefits students, including $55,000 from the Pennsylvania Department of Education to develop a program assisting child care providers in obtaining undergraduate degrees, and $456,000 from the U.S. Department of Education to provide child care for student parents.
She was the 2003–2004 recipient of the College of Health and Human Services Outstanding Teacher Award.
