IUP at Northpointe hosted 29 students in the Upward Bound Math and Science Program for one week of Electro-Optics Summer Camp.
Some highlights from the week were visiting Inventionland, L-3 Brashear, Dynamic Manufacturing, and FLIR Government Systems. All companies except Inventionland relate directly to the field of electro-optics. Students participated in the electronics lab, using led lights to make stop signals, a green lab, and test light bulb efficiency, plus hands-on activities for nanotechnology and fiber optics. They also enjoyed a hands-on activity with NASA via video conferencing.
Students also worked in teams using Glogster to create posters to demonstrate what they learned over the course of the week. An awards ceremony ended the week, with all students earning a certificate of completion and the two best teams from the poster presentation receiving a prize.
Recent graduates from the Associate’s Degree in Electro-Optics program volunteered for a week to help with camp.
