Dr. Eileen W. Glisan, professor of Spanish and Foreign Language Education, presented a session at the second conference of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages and the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (ACTFL-CEFR) in Provo, Utah, in August 2011.
Linguists and educators from the U.S. and various European countries attended the conference, which continued the dialog begun in last year’s conference held in Leipzig, Germany.
The goal of the conference was to explore correspondences between two systems for assessing the language proficiency of students: the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) Proficiency Guidelines and the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) on both theoretical and empirical grounds.
