Elephant Picnic Today at Kovalchick Complex, 11:30 a.m.

Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey are hosting a city-wide circus celebration today, Thursday, April 7, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in honor of their inaugural appearance in Indiana, Pa.


Indiana’s citizens of all ages, the honorable Mayor George Hood, performers from Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey presents Zing Zang Zoom Gold Edition, and three of Ringling Bros.’ majestic Asian elephants.


The celebration, which includes a Pachyderm Picnic, an interactive CircusFit® demonstration, and a special presentation of the key to the city by Mayor George Hood to Ringling Bros. Circus.

During the Pachyderm Picnic, the elephant handler and trainer, Ramon Esqueda, will discuss how he trains his three elephants with voice commands and positive reinforcement. Ramon will also talk about the elephant’s natural behavior and daily care.

Circus Fit, a national fitness program by Ringling Bros. that encourages youth to lead healthy, active lifestyles by combining fun and circus skills with strength training and aerobic exercise, will be presented by daredevil Jodie Urias, who performs with the Urias’ Motorcycle Globe of Steel. Urias, a certified hoop instructor, will lead a group of children in a modified hoop class as well as discuss the benefits of healthy diet choices.

Finally, Mayor George Hood will present an elephant-size key to the city to Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey clown Dean Kelley and Susie the elephant to welcome The Greatest Show On Earth® to Indiana for Ringling Bros.’ inaugural engagement in the city.


Thursday, April 7, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The public is encouraged to get to the arena by 11:15 a.m. (Timeline is subject to change.)
