The IUP Ambassadors, the student alumni association, is sponsoring Kelly McDonald, the president of McDonald Marketing, on Monday, April 4, 2011, as part of the Spring 2011 Six O’Clock Series. Her topic is “Generational Differences and How to Work with Someone Much Older than You.”
McDonald is a marketing and advertising expert with specialization in generational marketing and multicultural marketing. She has helped companies understand the differing work styles various generations bring to work, as well as how to manage associates and get the most out of each and every employee.
She has been featured in the Chicago Tribune as a generational expert.
McDonald knows that one of the most important transitions you’ll make in your lifetime is that from student to professional worker. Yet nothing in school—or life—really prepares you for the magnitude of this transition. You spend the first twenty years of your life in school, then are thrust into the work world, with no “training” on how to act, cope or put your best foot forward to maximize your professional opportunities. It’s like throwing people into a pool and expecting them to know how to swim. It’s not realistic and a lot of people end up drowning this way.
For students: Prepare yourself. You’ve studied for years. Take an hour to attend this session to learn tips and insights on how to shift from student to professional employee without making rookie blunders. For faculty, this session can help you guide your students on to their next level of success.
McDonald is the author of How to Market to People Not Like You: Know It or Blow It Rules for Reaching Diverse Customers.
Don’t miss the Six O’Clock Series on Monday, April 4, for this dynamic session.
Her client experience includes brands such as Toyota, Sherwin-Williams, Kimberly-Clark, Budweiser, Harley-Davidson, Mattel, Ace Hardware, and Nike.
In 2006, McDonald was named number one on the list of “26 Hot Speakers” by Successful Meetings Magazine.
In 2007 and 2009, Advertising Age named her company one of the top ad agencies in the U.S.
In 2008 and 2009, Inc Magazine named her company one of the fastest-growing, privately owned companies in the country.
In 2010 and 2011, McDonald was named one of the “Top Five Speakers in Marketing,” based on expertise and original contribution to the field.
McDonald has been featured on CNBC, in BusinessWeek, on CNNMoney.com, and on XM Radio.
