An exhibition featuring posters designed by faculty and students from Poland will open in Kipp Gallery's Annex space on Tuesday, March 1, 2011. A reception for the exhibit will follow a special music program being performed on Saturday, March 19, featuring music by Chopin.
The exhibit, along with a music recital, commemorates the bicentennial (1810–2010) of the birth of composer Frederic Chopin. The exhibit is brought to Indiana in collaboration with the Polish Cultural Council.
The key event of this celebration will be the opening of an exhibition of posters celebrating the life and works of Chopin created by faculty and students from Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski University in Krakow, Poland. Art professor Kyle Houser is curating the exhibit.
Kipp Gallery is located in Sprowls Hall on the corner of Eleventh and Grants streets on the IUP campus. Gallery hours are noon to 4:00 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, and the exhibit will be on display from March 1 through April 8.
IUP piano students, faculty, and visiting judge David Allen Werhr, of Duquesne University, will present a public recital and competition on Saturday, March 19, as part of the celebration. It will be performed in Gorell Recital Hall, located on the second floor of Sutton Hall. The program will begin at 3:00 p.m. with a competition featuring IUP piano students, with each contestant performing up to five minutes of music by Chopin. The recital will be immediately followed by a reception in Kipp Gallery.
