IUP senior Theater major Nick Hrutkay’s production of The Shape of Things concluded the "I Am An Artist" initiative on November 16-18, 2010.
Neil Labute’s play served the College of Fine Arts "I Am An Artist" initiative by opening up questions about the role of artists and their creations.
Hrutkay, a recipient of the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival recognition for his directing, approached Labute’s script with an effective plan that mined it for its gems of insight into art’s eternal relationship with big human themes of love and relationship.
"I Am An Artist" also included the IUP Dance Theater production of Sixteen Dancing Divas, the Music-Theater workshop performances of selections from class projects, and an Art Department student show.
The Shape of Things ran for three nights as an Acorn Project—one of a series of student-produced and -directed productions in the department’s studio theater. Actors featured in the leading roles were sophomore Casey Cunningham and senior Kate Bianco, who used the experience as her senior thesis project.
