On October 2, IUP’s student branch of Meeting Professionals International traveled to Lumberjaxes Axe Throwing in Mt. Lebanon for a networking event with MPI Pittsburgh.
The “Flannels and Axe Throwing” event
hosted by the Meeting Professionals International Pittsburgh Chapter was an excellent experience for the IUP MPI student
members. This was the first MPI Pittsburgh event that IUP has participated in
this fall semester. Students, especially new members, were eager to attend,
learn a new skill and have a good time.
While at Lumberjaxes, students and
their club adviser Nicole Buse mixed and mingled with
industry professionals from all over the city, and catch up with MPI Pittsburgh
members they had connected with in the past. “Flannels and Axe Throwing” was a
great way for students, industry professionals and members of the MPI
Pittsburgh Chapter to be able to network and connect with each other.
After a bit of socializing and the
passing of hors d’oeuvres, the Axe Throwing Tournament began. All the MPI
student members signed their name on the list and waited to be assigned to a
group. Though on “teams” the competitive nature of the event quickly revealed
itself. Though the tournament was competitive, students held their own. Despite their best efforts, none of the IUP students were named
champion.
The IUP MPI Chapter would like to
thank MPI Pittsburgh for the invitation to a great event and for their
prolonged support of the IUP chapter.
If you are a student at IUP who would like to
join Meetings Professionals International, please contact president
Lindsy Foner at sslw@iup.edu.
