As part of its Sound Choices series, the Indiana University of
Pennsylvania Department of Music will present the Faculty Chamber Music
Recital on Thursday, March 21, at 8:00 p.m. in Gorell Recital Hall. The
IUP Music faculty will bring light to great pieces of music that may
be lesser known.
Historically, chamber music has been a form of
classical music consisting of small ensembles that traditionally can fit
in a home—whether that was a palace chamber or a large room. It was
often done by amateur musicians in their homes, but it has grown to be
common for chamber music to be played by professionals in recital halls
in more recent years.
“Chamber music is often described as a
conversation among friends,” said Linda Jennings, faculty member of the
IUP Department of Music. “As such, I am delighted to bring together
musical conversations with my friends in the Music Department to share
with the audience.”
The group consists of the following IUP
Department of Music faculty members: Linda Jennings, cello; Rosemary
Engelstad, clarinet; Evan Engelstad, piano; Theresa Wacker, flute; Henry
Wong Doe, piano; Mary Logan Hastings, soprano; Raquel Winnica Young,
mezzo soprano; and Christine Clewell, piano. Some of the works they
will be performing include Johannes Brahms’ “Trio in A minor, Op. 114
for Clarinet, Cello and Piano,” Samuel Magrill’s “Song of Shalom,” and
Leonard Bernstein’s “Dream with Me.”
