IUP Dining is excited to announce that beginning in spring 2019, Folger Dining Hall will have a True Balance Allergen Solutions station. True Balance will accommodate those students and customers with food allergies and gluten intolerances.
menu has been carefully designed to create options for all students to enjoy and will eliminate seven of the top eight food allergens: milk, eggs, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, soy, and wheat. Eight food allergens cause 90 percent of allergic reactions
in all people. Fin fish, the eighth of eight, will be incorporated into the menu occasionally to allow for sufficient protein variety.
The introduction of the True Balance Allergen Solutions is a direct response to student needs and supports the living and learning environment on campus by ensuring that dining offerings meet the needs of all students regardless of specific menu or ingredient needs and requests.
“Folger Dining Hall has been redesigned to facilitate safe and healthy choices for students with food allergies or special diets while dining on campus,” said Richard Iams, resident district manager for Aramark at IUP Dining. “The goal is to provide students
with an equal opportunity to enjoy the dining services regardless of their specific food allergy or sensitivity.”
Folger Dining Hall was chosen based on its layout, as the True Balance station is separated from the main dining hall kitchen and storage space, reducing the risk of cross-contact. True Balance will also operate on different hours, and will be open from
11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Customers will enter Folger Dining Hall with a meal swipe or have the option of paying with cash, credit, or Flex dollars. Entry into the dining hall enables them to choose from anything offered throughout the location; customers can choose to eat from
any and all stations.
Take-out from True Balance is also available. This is limited to one time through the line and does not include choices from other stations in the dining hall in order to minimize the risk of cross contact.
Our True Balance Station has an eclectic menu that will serve a fabulous selection of rotating menus items. For example: Spicy Lemon Chicken, Beef and Mushroom Pot Roast, fresh vegetables, and sides. True Balance also features made-without-gluten options.
IUP Dining makes every
effort to label food allergens; however, manufacturers may change their product
formulation or consistency of ingredients without our knowledge, and product
availability may fluctuate. Please be aware that the food items are prepared in
a shared kitchen and do pose a risk for cross-contact. Therefore, it is
ultimately the responsibility of the consumer to judge whether or not to
question ingredients or to choose to eat selected foods.
Food allergic guests
must use their own advocates and exercise caution at all times. Customers who
may need to use an Epi-Pen should carry their own while dining. IUP Campus
Dining will not assume any liability for adverse reactions of foods consumed or
for any cross-contact that can inevitably occur within a self-service venue.
If you have any questions regarding ingredients, please consult the registered
dietitian or food service director.
