Joseph Kovaleski and Susan Verano Kovaleski have established the Dr. Joseph F. and Susan Verano Kovaleski Scholarship at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. The scholarship will benefit new and ongoing IUP students from Northumberland County who are enrolled in the College of Education and Communications who are also pursuing a degree in education or an education-related field.

The Kovaleskis established the scholarship to help lower-income families access better life opportunities as education as the best solution for meeting and overcoming the challenges of poverty. They have also expressed support for the development of effective, research-based teachers while giving back to the county in which they were raised.

Joseph Kovaleski is an emeritus faculty member of the Educational and School Psychology Department. He served with the department for 14 years as a professor and was also the doctoral director. Susan Kovaleski recently retired from her work as an English as a Second Language teacher for the Armstrong-Indiana Intermediate Unit.

This donation is part of IUP’s Imagine Unlimited $75 million comprehensive campaign, which currently has gifts totaling more than $55 million. The campaign will enable IUP to reach its vision and step forward as a national leader, distinguished by new thinking that has no limits and that cuts across traditional academic boundaries.
